  • In the Heading you need your name, address, full phone number(s). • Include a “Profile” at the top of the page. This will summarise your key selling points so that employers can quickly see what you have to offer.
  • Make sure your CV actively sells your qualifications by focusing on accomplishments and results. • Emphasise specific experience (and contributions) that support your job objectives.
  • Include plenty of active verbs (managed, coordinated, planned, implemented, directed, initiated, conducted, completed, recommended, etc.).
  • Use simple, straightforward language.
  • Strategically organise your categories so that the most relevant, most impressive information is listed at the top of the page.
  • Demonstrate transferable skills throughout your CV: verbal and written communication, organisation, leadership, planning, aptitude for learning, adaptability, creativity, resourcefulness and problem solving.
  • Keep the CV to one or two pages at most.

Present the right image

Dress for success, look the part of the position you're being interviewed for. Be meticulously groomed and take the time to properly organize any paperwork you bring along (i.e., extra CV copies, letters of recommendation, references, performance evaluations, questions).

Do whatever it takes to arrive on time get a map! Check out the address and parking facilities before hand not on the day of the interview. Go out of your way to be polite – not only to the interviewer, but also to the receptionist or secretary. Use a firm handshake, direct eye contact and a friendly smile; demonstrate a sincere interest and enthusiasm for the job. If possible show a knowledge of the company and its achievements.

Always display loyalty to your former employers… no matter what they did (or did to you) never, never, never say anything negative about them. Maintain a positive attitude and believe in yourself!

Follow it up

Always follow up by sending the interviewer a brief thank-you letter or note.

Timing your interview

Strategically schedule your interview time. If possible, try to schedule your appointment so that you're not the first person being interviewed. (Research conducted by Robert Half & Associates indicates that the first person interviewed gets the job only 17% of the time, while the last person interviewed gets the job 55% of the time. It is also recommended that you avoid interviews on Monday or late in the afternoon.)

Psychometric testing
