Structural engineers are concerned with the safety, efficiency
and elegance of buildings and engineering structures. They work
with other professionals in design and construction but take
particular responsibility for how buildings and other structures
respond to loadings. They must consider the weight of the building
itself, its contents including people and how the building reacts
with the ground. The effects of accidents together with the
possible incidence of fire, earthquake and explosion damage
have all to be considered. Designs must not only be sufficiently
safe but be efficient and easy to build. The aim should also
be to produce structures that enhance the environment and give
a feeling of elegance and satisfaction |
The
Landscape Institute is the chartered professional body for Landscape
Architects in the UK. and comprises landscape designers, planners,
managers and scientists. Landscape architects work on all types
of external space - large and small, urban and rural - and make
a vital contribution to developing the modern environment in
towns, cities and the countryside. Founded in 1929, the Institute
sets out to promote the highest standards of education and professional
service in the application of the arts and sciences of landscape
architecture. It currently has 4,400 members working in both
the private and public sectors, on all types of external space. |
